Sport plays a major role during the lives of most people. Whether you be a major sports team fan or play sport yourself there is no doubt you can link it to your life in some way – no matter how old or young you are.

Participating in sports has a great many benefits to both the individual and family. Taking part in sport is a great opportunity for social interaction. It allows you to join a team and make new friends. Not only that, it helps you to develop your skills in a wide variety of areas including leadership, team work, balance, strength, fitness, flexibility and co-ordination.

Families greatly benefit from sport as it can be made into an allocated time to be together if it is an interest held by all members.

Some people also play sport as a form of rehabilitation. After an accident some sports – for example swimming and Pilates – can help a person to regain their strength, core stability, mobility and muscle tone.

Taking part in some form of sport is also critical to the management of a healthy lifestyle. Physical activity in an imperative component of weight management, and what better way to get active and looking fantastic than joining up a sport or sporting team? Not only will you get the health benefits of taking part in sport, but the social benefits as well.

There is such a wide range of sports out there to try that will suit a broad range of people. Why not try football or soccer? How about netball or basketball? You could also consider trying your hand at volleyball (beach volleyball is particularly good for toning the legs!), archery, shooting, horse riding, paintball, bush walking, rock climbing or even some form of water sport!

There is such a broad range of sports available to both men and women to take part in – both recreationally and competitively – that it would be a shame not to have a go at something. So go on – get into sport… your life will be better for it!
